RRAE – Panels Meetings and On-site Visits

Between 22^nd of August and 17^th of September 2011, at UEFISCDI, will take place meetings in the 42 assessment panels for harmonization the result of individual assessments.

An important step in assessment of the university research is the visit in universities by teams of evaluators to assess "on site". During these visits, evaluation experts will validate, through direct examination, the items reported in the Criterion II - "Research environment" and will determine the quality with which these landings will participate in panel discussions of the meeting.

Work Session - “Romanian Research Assessment Exercise”

The “Romanian Research Assessment Exercise” workshop took place on the 7^th and the 8^th of October 2010 as part of Work Package 2 – “Quality of University Research”.

In this meeting, the final versions of the specific methodologies of the 42 scientific fields covered by the assessment exercise have been submitted for validation. Other subjects on the agenda were the European assessment exercises and the European ranking and the classification of universities according to the results of scientific research.

The meeting also included a discussion on the implementation procedure of Romanian Research Assessment Exercise (RRAE) with emphasis on possible problematic aspects.

The debate was attended by representatives of the Romanian academic community, members of the National Coordinating Committee and International Advisory Committee.

Exploratory Workshops in “Diaspora 2010” Conference

The second edition of the Conference "Diaspora in Higher Education and Scientific Research of Romania" held between September 21 and 24, was organized under the slogan "National Call to Researchers living in the Diaspora". The conference aimed at creating a space for dialogue and collaboration between Romanian scientists working inside and outside its borders.

On September 23^rd 2010, 23 exploratory workshops were simultaneously organized in Bucharest and its outskirts. The main purpose of these meetings was to create the preconditions for international cooperation to achieve inter-disciplinary and cross-scale and to increase the visibility and international impact of the Romanian scientific results.

Each workshop discussed the criteria and methodologies used in the Strategic Project "Doctorate in Universities of Excellence – Research Assessment and Support for Scientific Publishing” to assess the quality of scientific results. The participants’ feedback was very important for the managerial team of the project and many proposals have been included in the methodologies. At these workshops we have also launched a call for experts to be used in the Romanian Research Assessment Exercise (RRAE).

Public event to launch "Romanian Publishing Platform"- scipio.ro

On September 17^th 2010, the Strategic Project "Doctorate in Universities of Excellence – Research Assessment and Support for Scientific Publishing” has publicly launched the Romanian Editorial Platform hosted at www.scipio.ro.

The meeting was attended by a number of 50 executives, editors and publishers of Romanian scientific publications, and has been held at the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine – Bucharest.

"The Romanian Editorial Platform is an e-system for scientific publications that enables the automation of the editorial process at international standards. The new platform, SCIPIO.ro (Scientific Publishing & Information), will support electronic publishing and will be developed as a digital library for Romanian scientific production," says Prof. Ioan DUMITRACHE, President of the NURC and Project Manager.

SCIPIO.ro – Scientific Publishing & Information provides to scientific journals editorial support throughout the publication flow, from receiving the manuscript to preparing the final form for print or online publication.

Romanian Research Assessment Exercise

On 4-5th of March, 2010, at CEPES -UNESCO Conference Room took place the Round Table "Romanian Research Assessment Exercise". This event is focused on adjusting domain-specific evaluation methodologies for each of the 42 assessment domains that will be used in the National Assessment Exercise which is scheduled to take place in May 2010 – March 2011.

Ata the event participated members of romanian universities, members of National and International Steering Committee.
The experts that presented their experience where: Prof. Karel Aim (Czech Republic), Prof. Tadeusz LUTY (Poland), Prof. Erkki LEPPAVUORI (Finland), Prof. Laszlo KEVICZKY (Hungary), Prof. Hans Peter JENSEN (Denmark), Prof. Par Omling (Sweden) and Dr. Sonja BERGHOFF (Germany).

Mutual Learning Workshop

Work Package 3 – “Doctorate in universities of excellence” has organized the Mutual Learning Workshop on the 18th of February 2010 at CEPES-UNESCO Conference Rooms.

The aim of this Work Package is to develop an Excellence Program that will help Romanian universities enter prestigious international rankings.

Through this workshop, we wanted to survey the existing models for international excellence. The analysis is and will be based on an exchange of experience among foreign experts specialized in implementing excellence programs in countries like Germany and Japan.

In the beginning of the event, Prof. Dr. Eng. Ioan DUMITRACHE – Project Manager made a short presentation of the Strategic Project “Doctorate in Universities of Excellence – Research Assessment and Support for Scientific Publishing”, followed by Prof. Dr. Eng. Paul Serban AGACHI – “Doctorate in Universities of Excellence” Work package coordinator who presented our view on “Defining a Programme for Universities of Excellence” in Romania.

Two prestigious international experts - Dr. Klaus WEHRBERGER from DFG GERMANY and Professor Akiyoshi YONEZAWA - TOHUKU UNIVERSITY, JAPAN presented their experiences in Universities of Excellence.

In the future, we will develop a methodology for a programme of academic excellence in Romanian universities.
